What does 'beauty is only skin deep' mean?

because the most beautiful person can be ugly. My daughter is a very pretty girl, boys always wanting to date her, but sometimes when she opens her mouth she can be so ugly. She can be mean, nasty, ungrateful, and smart-mouthed. I have seen several people like this.

What does 'beauty is only skin deep' mean?
It means that being beautiful on the outside (physically attractive) does not necessarily make you a good person on the inside.
Reply:It means you lose your beauty if you are skinned :-)

Or, more seriously, it means physical beauty is only superficial.

Reply:Beauty is skin deep - but ugly goes straight to the bone.
Reply:It means that you shouldn't care about what a person looks like because it's only the outside. If someone is really good looking and is a total jerk, do you think that you'd like that perosn? No way! If a person were ugly but super nice, would you like to hang out with that person? Probably, yes. Beauty is just the outside, and the inside is what counts!

Reply:Did you mean to say 'beauty is more than just skin deep'?

This means that beauty is not just on the outisde, but can be found on the inside too.

HTH : )
Reply:If you live here in the US, there is a movie called Shallow Hal.

Most people judge by appearance whether or not they will talk to someone or get to know someone. It they are attractive, then they approach, to be less attractive, of a different background, nationality, or physical stature, most people shy away and never get to know the person inside.

What they think and feel, what they like and dislike, maybe they have knowledge on a subject, such as our universe, or on the oceans, rock formations, that you were looking for but could not find.

When we go beyond looking at the outside, and get to know someone for who they are, they we to become like that fine pearls of high value that we seek out in those whom we find attractive.

So the next time, when you see someone with a birth defect, a scar, or someone of another race, don’t shy away, get to know them, see what you have in common. You find that you are polishing your pearl inside of you, growing in knowledge and wisdom and making yourself more attractive to everyone else including yourself.
Reply:external beauty wrinkles with time but the beauty of the soul is everlasting!
Reply:something that people say but do really mean it
Reply:Beauty is only skin-deep means that we should not judge a person only by their physical attributes like looks etc…good, bad, ugly, tall, fat, short, muscular, skinny or whatever. This is because a person’s physical features are only temporary and very much subject to change with age, sickness, diseases, accident etc. It implies that we should judge a person from something more concrete like character etc.
Reply:It means that what matters the most is what the person is like on the inside like their character and their inner fellings.

Although often times it is who they are in the inside that makes them beautiful or handsome on the outer part of their being.
