What about 'beauty is skin-deep'?
They are speaking of physical beauty defined by accepted societal norms.
Reply:Only said by bitter ugly people.
The same for "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", said by ignorant pretty people and simpering ugly people alike.
Personally I think these types of phrases are utter balls.
