The expression "beauty is only skin deep", so why wear makeup? Isn't the inner beauty more important?

only ugly people say that inner beauty is more important

The expression "beauty is only skin deep", so why wear makeup? Isn't the inner beauty more important?
Some people need the outer beauty before they can get to know the inner beauty.
Reply:The point of the saying is that some people may be beautiful on the outside but ugly on the inside.
Reply:Inner beauty? That's not beauty, that's kindness or greatness, or goodness. How can you say that a 90-year-old woman is more beautiful than a 20-year-old super model even if the super model is a very unpleasant person? Beauty is just as simple as the word suggests!
Reply:Yes, but too many people judge by the outwartd appearance first and so women generally want others to get a good first impression, so they attemp to enhance their beauty with make-up, or indeed cover their inner ugliness with it!
Reply:Beauty is all that people care about. Well, practically everyone is like that.
Reply:meaning someone who is physically beautiful, but has a sour atitude, a quick temper can seem not so attractive as her looks. where as a man whose looks are not that attractive, but has a nice caring, atitude can make him so handsome, not on looks alone. make up is beyond the scope!
Reply:Beauty isn't a surface word, beauty is just an attractive feature. No one's saying people are only beautiful with make up, maybe people just prefer how they look with make up, they feel more confident. Personally I can take or leave it unless I'm going out somewhere smart. I am more attracted to girls who aren't caked up in make up. I think make-up, like anything, tattoos, clothing, is all just an expression of personality.
Reply:Imagine if you had to choose a present based only on the wrapping paper. You would likely choose the best wrapped gift. That is why people doll themselves up. Sometimes to distract from inner ugliness and sometimes to accentuate inner beauty. But you have to be attracted in the first place.
Reply:I agree with the guy up there! it was used to say... your beauty can stop JUST before you look inside someone. with that said, the inside shouldnt have anything to do with the outside. and to answer your question, it all depends on what person you ask. if you ask me.. and i have no problem pickin a guy up and i suggest the same quote! i actually decide if i like someone based on whats on the inside! i think if someone feels good and is a good person it shines right through them..
Reply:Your two statements are contradictory. Beauty is skin deep. That is why people wear make up. And inner beauty is a totally different thing. People have make up for that too.
Reply:Our society thrives on the outer beauty . Make up is in some cases a mask to hide ugliness or lack of self esteem.

You work with what you have.

the saying is encouraging people to work on the "Beauty that lasts."

Yes inner beauty is more important.

As for the supermodels referred to in another answers. I have Four words

Naomi Camble(spelling ,) Mother Teresa.
Reply:well you can be beautiful on both the outside AND the inside. the point of that expression is to not always trust appearances, and to make sure you know the real person inside.
Reply:Beauty can be defined as qualities combined that makes something pleasing ans impressive to look at, listen to, touch, smell, or taste. Although people thing that beauty is on the outside, people forget that the beauty of a person's personality shines to be radiant. People need make-up to make them feel radiant, but it doesn't matter what they feel when make-up is applied. Make-up is not very heath for the skin. It clogs to pores.
Reply:it's the same as saying size doesn't matter
Reply:uh oh your a fat girl arent you
Reply:It is an expression and that does not make it automatically correct. Beauty is that which is esthetically pleasing and symmetrical. " Inner beauty " is an euphemism for something else, say goodness. To say beauty is only skin deep may not be correct, scientifically. As a sexual selection marker, it may be conferring information about genetic quality. Do not read to much into an old saying that is mostly metaphorical.
