What does "Beauty is only skin deep" mean?

I need to do an essay and i need ALOT of details that are easy to understand. THXX!!!

What does "Beauty is only skin deep" mean?
Basically it means try and look past the outward appearance of somebody. Who i am on the inside isn't necessarily reflected on how i look from the outside. Like somebody who is overweight - they can be super smart, really nice and very caring, but get over looked b/c they are not asthetically pleasing to the eye. Same with somebody who is missing an arm or a leg or has a big mole on their face. Or on the other hand - somebody as beautiful as Christie Brinkley or whoever society deems perfect could be an absolute horrible person; but is regarded highly b/c they are 'pretty'. Does that make sense?

Look inside the person and see their inner beauty b/c what's on the outside is only skin deep and will eventually fade.

Hope that helps.
Reply:That may be true but some people are ugly to the bone.
Reply:Beauty is only skin deep, but it's a valuable asset if you're poor or haven't any sense. - Vernon Howard

Beauty is only skin deep

Meaning: Physical beauty is superficial.

Origin: Proverb. First found in a work by Sir Thomas Overbury's, 1613: "All the carnall beauty of my wife, Is but skin deep." What his wife thought isn't recorded. There is a fanciful work attributed to Overbury called A true and historical relation of the poysoning of Sir Thomas Overbury, 1651. Perhaps she had him worried?

'Skin deep' is now also used to allude to anything superficial. An early use of this was also attributed to Overbury in 1613, in Ordinary Fencer Works, 1856: "His wounds are seldome above skin-deep."
Reply:It means that just because someone is beautiful, it doesn't mean they are a beautiful on the inside. So, basically, don't judge people on their looks because beautiful people might not always be good people. That's what I think it means. =]
Reply:IT means Beauty is only skin deep but, Ugly is to the bone!
Reply:It means beauty is shallow and there are deeper assets a person has than beauty, like character, courage, wisdom, etc. FYI: If we're doing you're homework for you, it ain't cute (or beautiful).
Reply:Anyone who says that is an UGLY ******!
Reply:I would suggest you interview all of your relatives....both male and female. They are the best ones to help you understand what they have taught you this phrase means.

Simply, it means many things to many people. What is it that you really believe?
Reply:You can find a lot of beautiful people. The trick is finding one who is beautiful on the inside where you can't see. A person of this persuasion is worth a thousand of the "skin deep" kind. But to answer your question, What does "beauty is only skin deep" mean , to me it means, what you see is not always what you get.
Reply:It means that you may be beautiful to look at, however, you may be a really ugly person personality wise.
Reply:it means that outside appearance has nothing to do with it. It is the beauty of your personality
Reply:Oh honey that's just something ugly people say. Some who was ugly made that expression up too. It means that it's who you are on the inside that counts... some bull**** like that!!
Reply:Something about inner beauty. I think a good translation of that might be "you're as pretty as you act". Of course it's not always true.
